New High-Output Gridless Ion Source Now Available

The new EH 2000 is the result of a complete redesign of its ‘first generation’ counterpart. Design changes have resulted in substantial increases in beam output to 2.5A. Operational ion energy and pressure range have been widened, size, weight and reliability issues have also been addressed. New and extensively field tested power supplies now boast 77,000 hours MTBF.

The New EH 400 – Compact Gridless Ion Source Design Offers Double the Beam Current of MKI 'First Generation’ Source

This new compact ‘next generation’ ion source has been specifically designed for installation in smaller thin film deposition systems. Although very compact, the EH 400 is extremely powerful and capable of delivering a beam current of 400mA over an ion energy range of 40 – 210 eV. This represents a 100% increase in ion beam current density achievable over its first generation counterpart.

EH 400 Benefits:

  • Low cost but powerful ion source for IBC & IBAD thin film R&D applications

  • Direct high power replacement for Veeco – Commonwealth MKI Gridless Ion Source.

After many years of experience and customer feedback gained from production of the original and earlier generation sources designed and patented by Kaufman, the next generation high current gridless end-hall ion source range has arrived.

Features of the new source range include:

  • Wider operational range, in terms of voltage, current and pressure

  • Significantly higher output

  • Lower capital and operational costs

  • Simpler and faster maintenance permits greater uptime

  • Compact design, with unique modular anode/gas distributor assembly

  • New design, current limited and protected switch mode power supply
